TCA Architects’ Poetry Garage Door Infuses Culture into Multifamily Community

By: Daniella Soloway

New developments have the power to seamlessly integrate into the woven fabric of the surrounding city’s culture. Oakland-based TCA Architects has taken a novel approach to making this happen with BayRock Multifamily’s 107-unit The Addison apartment project, coming online in 2018 in Berkeley’s Arts District.

Scheduled to break ground later this year, the signature art piece adorning the structure will be the “Poetry Garage Door,” which is a laser-cut, backlit door that will display local poets’ verses. Paying homage to the “Berkeley Poetry Walk” just one block away, the artisan approach adds character to the amenity-rich project.

Additional project features include a media lounge, bike shop, pet wash, dining area, fitness center, urban wall mural, outdoor courtyards, a rooftop deck, and more.
