In anticipation of Tesla’s Model 3, the electric car company has opened its largest U.S.store in San Francisco this week. The 65,000 square foot space makes Tesla the sole auto dealership in the City.
Located on the corner of O’Farrell Street and Van Ness Avenue, the three-story art-deco building serves as the company’s 11th store in the Bay Area, but its main flagship. Rather than a typical sales pitch, the various stores’ employees are trained to educate potential consumers on the brand, rather than push a car sale. Since Tesla owns all of its stores, rather than franchising them, sales personnel do not receive commission.
With the new line of Model 3’s to hit the market next year, Tesla plans to have 300 stores open by the end of 2016, which translates to an average of one new store opening every four days.
