The Texas A&M University System (TAMUS) and development partner Medistar Corporation have branded their five-acre campus under development near the Texas Medical Center. The Texas A&M Innovation Plaza will include student housing and a 17-story medical tower.
Scheduled for completion in June 2022, the 714-bed student housing tower will give priority to TAMUS medical students and Prairie View A&M University nursing students. The 515,000-square-foot integrated medical building is expected to come on line approximately 18 months later.
First to open will be the new home of EnMed, a two-degree program providing students an opportunity to earn a master’s degree in engineering and a medical degree, both through TAMUS. The university system acquired and renovated an existing 18-story building for EnMed.
Medistar will bring an additional $401 million of investment to the Innovation Plaza project. American Triple I Partners, founded by TAMUS alum Henry Cisneros, is part of the financing team. Cisneros served as mayor of San Antonio from 1981 to 1989, and also Secretary of Housing and Urban Development under the Clinton administration from 1993 to 1997.
