The Chicago Housing Authority selected El Paso-based Hunt Development Corp. to build 482 units of mixed-income housing on a close to seven-acre site at Larrabee Street and Clybourn Avenue in Chicago. The development will be on the site of the former Cabrini-Green public housing project, which was demolished in 2011.
Once known as a site of poverty, violence and drug-abuse, the new development will include a 21-story tower, 32,900 square feet of retail space and connected midrise buildings and low-rise townhomes. The area around the formerly troubled site has been filling in with luxury apartments and retail projects.
Hunt will be the master developer, and will collaborate with Imagine Group and Chicago Neighborhood Initiatives. Chicago Neighborhood Initiatives is a unit of U.S. Bank, and is known for developing Pullman, a Chicago south side neighborhood.
