Site Selection Magazine lauded the state of Texas’ economic growth by presenting it with its annual Governor’s Cup Award. The award is the seventh time the Lone Star State has been recognized by Site Selection for efforts in job creation, economic development and workforce increase.
According to the organization, Texas shared first place with Nebraska for having the most qualified capital projects of all states. The 608-project finish for 2018 was an increase from the 594-project completion reported in 2017.
In his interview with Site Selection Magazine, Texas Governor Greg Abbott said that economic development activity in some of the smaller towns across Texas have been important to the overall project total. In addition to Apple’s $1 billion expansion in Austin and McKesson’s headquarters relocation to Irving, Abbott pointed to activity in East Texas and Temple, TX — “. . . places people outside Texas wouldn’t be very familiar with,” he said. “The smaller projects in the smaller towns are just as important to them as the large projects are to our big cities.”
