The state of Texas won Site Selection’s 2016 Governor’s Cup for a record fifth year in a row. The award is given annually by Site Selection Magazine to the top-performing state for capital investment and job creation. In 2016, Texas finished with 642 business relocations or expansions.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott indicated that, despite the slippage in the oil industry, the state added more than 200,000 jobs in 2016, “The reason is we have continued to diversify our economy in areas and sectors that have nothing to do with energy,” he told Site Selection Magazine. Other sectors that are growing in the Lone Star State include high tech, healthcare and life sciences, as well as financial services.
