Texas has received Site Selection Magazine’s Governor’s Cup for a record-breaking sixth year in a row. The 2017 award marks Texas’ 14th Governor’s Cup, which tops any other state. Site Selection awards the Governor’s Cup annually to top-performing states in the areas of business and job creation. In 2017, Texas led the nation with 594 business relocations or expansions.
“I am proud to accept the Governor’s Cup on behalf of the great state of Texas, as we are once again the top state for the most new and expanded corporate facilities,” said Texas Governor Greg Abbott.
Also defending its Governor’s Cup is Nebraska, which topped the list for total projects per capita (Texas won the award for total qualified projects). Nebraska increased its project count from 101 to 110. While the Texas project count dropped from 642 to 594, it still finished ahead of Ohio, which had 467.
Site Selection notes that Texas and Nebraska are leading locations for wind energy, which is why Facebook has invested considerable resources in both states. The social networking giant requires that its data be run by renewable energy.
