It’s a bird. It’s a plane. It’s faster, and it’s the future, designed by Elon Musk.
Musk’s SpaceX has hired Los-Angeles based AECOM to build the first hyperloop test track in Hawthorne. Construction is expected to commence in spring, and will consist of a nearly one-mile test track adjacent to SpaceX’s headquarters.
Musk’s pioneering vision is to create a system of low-pressure tubes and pods that can transport people from Los Angeles to San Francisco in less than an hour. The hyperloop would be capable of reaching speeds up to 760 mph.
The future track is envisioned to run along the 5 freeway, with stops between its main stations in L.A. and S.F. AECOM’s Chairman and CEO Michael S. Burke said, ““What we are delivering is more than just a track to test pod prototypes. It’s a glimpse into the future.”
