Midland, TX won top honors from the Walton Family Foundation, snagging first place in its new research, “Most Dynamic Metropolitans.” The research measured key data within 379 metros, including job growth, income gains and the proportion of total jobs at young firms, which is a key performance indicator of entrepreneurial performance.
“Midland is the capital of the Permian Basin, that produces one in five barrels of oil in the U.S.,” analysts wrote. “The explosion of shale oil exploration activity is driving the economy, and the Tall City is the most reliant on oil activity in the nation.”
Meanwhile, Austin-Round Rock ranked No. 7, and Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington took 27th place.
