Thousand Oaks Eyeing Kilgore for Potential Expansion

Thousand Oaks Corp., a wholesale sporting goods importer, is considering expanding in East Texas. The California-headquartered company currently has a warehouse in Longview, and approached the Kilgore Economic Development Corp. about expanding into a 27,000-square-foot shell building inside Synergy Business Park.

The Kilgore City Council recently approved a resolution to support an application by the company for a portion of Gregg County’s foreign-trade zone, which would protect imported goods housed in the building from local, state and federal taxes. Thousand Oaks, also known as Evolution Outdoor Designs, will make a decision on the site by the end of January 2019.

Amanda Nobles with the KEDC told the Longview News-Journal that the city didn’t solicit the wholesalers, nor is it offering incentives other than the FTZ approval. “They just needed the space, and they needed it quickly, and it was not available in their current space in Longview,” she said.
