The Jehovah’s Witnesses sold another piece of their Brooklyn real estate empire on December 21 to a group of developers including Jared Kushner, son-in-law of President Elect Donald Trump.
The buyers claimed a 135,000-square-foot parking lot that fills an entire city block in Brooklyn’s pricey DUMBO neighborhood near the revitalized waterfront. The site is zoned for up to 1.1 million square feet of development.
The Jehovah’s Witnesses have sold more than $1.3 billion in properties along the Brooklyn waterfront, including the iconic Watchtower building, which sold for $700 million early this year to another group of developers, again including Jared Kushner. It’s all part of a plan by the Jehovah’s Witnesses to move their headquarters from Brooklyn to Warwick, N.Y., more than an hour’s drive outside of the city.
