Uber is in talks to lease about 450,000 square feet at 601W Cos.’ redeveloped Old Main Post Office, the Chicago Tribune reported. The 2.8-million-square-foot building would give the rapidly-growing company plenty of room to expand.
If completed, the lease would be one of the largest ever signed by a technology company in Chicago, the Tribune reported. Moreover, it would be one of the largest deals by any office tenant in Chicago in recent years.
Uber, with offices at 111 N. Canal St. as well as Uber Freight trucking business headquarters at 225 W. Randolph St., would be the largest tenant to date at the Post Office, which will open its doors in September.
Others that have committed to space at the long-vacant building include Walgreens, relocating its headquarters from suburban Deerfield, and most-recently two Kroger-owned companies: meal-kit maker Home Chef and data analytics firm 84.51.
