The University of Texas Board of Regents approved spending $392 million from its endowment to build nine projects over the next few years. The projects include a new Energy Engineering Building on the UT Austin campus, and negotiation of a ground lease with Trammell Crow Co. to redevelop a downtown Austin block on Sixth Street.
The engineering facility is seen as the most pressing need, as it will be used to increase UT Austin’s engineering program, which is considered one of the nation’s best. The agreement with Trammell Crow will focus on a mixed-use project. Other projects targeted with the funds include improvements at some of the statewide 14 academic and health campuses.
