Vegas Bullet Train Gets Chinese Backing

Connect Media will have a special, in-depth report on China next week, examining how investors from that country are making an impact on U.S. commercial real estate. Look for the first part on Sept. 28!

A proposed Los Angeles-to-Las Vegas bullet train will reportedly get funding from a Chinese government agency. XpressWest, which has long tried to construct a high-speed train between Southern California and Sin City but has had trouble raising funds for the venture, has apparently formed a partnership with China Railway International USA.

XpressWest had originally proposed to build a station in Victorville that would only take passengers 80 minutes to get to Las Vegas at a cost of $89. But China Railway has bigger plans and wants a Las Vegas bullet train route with service throughout the Los Angeles area.

If all goes as planned, work on the project could start as early as September of next year.
