Verizon plans to close call centers in five states, including one in Rancho Cordova, CA, near Sacramento. The consolidation is expected to impact roughly 3,200 workers nationally.
The company says about 1,000 employees in California will be relocated, including 700 in customer care and another 300 in telesales.
Other call centers being closed are located in Rochester and New York City, Bangor, ME, Lincoln, NE, as well as Wallingford and Meriden, CT.
Impacted workers are all being offered jobs at other Verizon sites, or severance packages, if they decide not to relocate.
Through Q2 2016, Verizon’s wireless revenue fell nearly 3% to $44 billion, while the carrier saw a 26% drop in the most lucrative subscribers.
