Vogel Realty is taking steps to install new heating and air conditioning systems designed to protect office workers at Chelsea Gardens, a 105-year-old office building in the Dupont Circle Historic District.

The building, which is located at 1638 R St. NW, has been closed since D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser announced stay-at-home orders for the District.

The new HVAC systems are specially designed to minimize the spread of airborne viruses and bacteria. The systems also bring in more fresh air per guidelines set by the CDC and the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health. The upgrade includes two different systems, the iWave-R air purification system, combined with increased fresh air, increases the supply of oxygen and filters out viruses in the circulating air. Additionally, the ductless mini-splits allow each office to have their own, separate air supply, so the air does not circulate among offices.

Vogel also plans to install additional handwashing stations and anti-microbial surfaces in common areas at the building.
