According to a study by ComScore and UPS, 77% of shoppers consider free shipping to be most important when completing an order. Since free shipping has become a critical component driving consumers’ online shopping habits, Wal-Mart unveiled a pilot service called ShippingPass that promises fast, free shipping.
The move helps the retailer keep pace with Amazon Prime, a $99 per year subscription service that also offers free shipping. Wal-Mart’s new ShippingPass pilot program lets customers sign up to receive unlimited two-day shipping for $49 per year.
To participate in the program, shoppers input an email address and ZIP code, which places them on a waitlist. Once the service is available, a notification is sent to users. The company has not given a timeline for a full rollout of the service.
