Walmart Stores Inc. announced it would close three stores in San Antonio on Oct. 12, 2018. The Bentonville, AR-headquartered retailer will close the following Neighborhood Market format stores.
- 6938 Walzem Rd.
- 3418 E. Southcross
- 3847 Pleasanton Rd.
A company spokeswoman told the San Antonio Express News that, while the Neighborhood Market stores are popular with consumers, the three closing locations are within three miles of other Walmart stores. Walmart, meanwhile, is spending $277 million on stores statewide, adding features that include home grocery delivery, grocery pickup and “pickup towers,” and brick-and-mortar stores, which dispense orders placed online.
Walmart shuttered another local Neighborhood Market store in December 2017, and a Sam’s Club store at 12919 San Pedro Ave. in January 2018.
