Walmart said Friday it was committed to investing in Chicago. Along with reopening stores that were damaged by looting, primarily on the city’s South and West Sides, it will also add services both at the store level and citywide.

Within the four Supercenters and four Neighborhood Markets Walmart operates within Chicago, the retailing giant plans to add its Walmart Health concept, currently in a pilot phase. The timeline for rolling out the service wasn’t immediately clear.

Although he didn’t specify the location, Walmart president and CEO Doug McMillan said in an open letter Friday that the company would build a Walmart Academy to support growth and development of store associates.

“We will partner with local organizations, institutions and community leaders to expand job opportunities for those in the community who are most at risk,” McMillan said. “And, we will look for more ways to support community-based efforts around the store.”
