Coworking giant WeWork plans to grow a lot bigger in Chicago. The company reportedly is close to finalizing deals for more than 185,000 square feet at two Beacon Capital Properties, 515 N. State St. and 330 N. Wabash Ave., in the River North submarket.
Although it didn’t specify properties, WeWork confirmed to the Chicago Tribune that it plans to grow in that part of town. “The River North neighborhood area is home to both WeWork’s first Chicago location at 111 W. Illinois, as well as our largest at 20 W. Kinzie,” a spokesman told the Tribune. “We continue to see demand grow in River North and throughout Chicago from both small businesses and large enterprises.”
NKF reported that coworking firms such as WeWork more than tripled their Chicago footprint to two million square feet in three years. The total is expected to reach 2.6 million square feet by year’s end.
