A development team that includes WeWork, OpenAI and the World Economic Forum proposed a $200-million redevelopment of the Presidio’s 30-acre Fort Scott campus. Equity Community Builders submitted plans to rehabilitate and renovate the 22 historic barracks and buildings at the foot of the Golden Gate Bridge within the Presidio national park.
WeWork would lease and design roughly 135,000 square feet of collaborative office space across nine buildings that would be co-developed with The Lela Goren Group. The space would be split into areas for “mission-driven” companies focused on addressing the significant environmental and/or social challenges and the EPIC Institute, a non-profit funded by the California Clean Energy Fund.
OpenAI would lease roughly 107,000 square feet for offices and labs. Amenities include a welcome center, porches for gathering and exhibitions, a cafeteria, café and beer garden, as well as a convening center, community garden and earth data observatory.
The Presidio Trust’s board is expected to make a decision in May.
