Whole Foods, a homegrown Austin company now owned by Amazon, has started construction on an addition to its headquarters, the Austin American-Statesman reported. A state filing describes the new building, called Shoal Creek Walk 2, as a $38-million project, with nearly 144,000 square feet of space.
The site is directly behind Whole Foods’ existing flagship store and headquarters on North Lamar Boulevard. It’s also adjacent to the 15-story Shoal Creek Walk office building.
Local office brokers told the Statesman that a building the size of Shoal Creek Walk 2 could accommodate up to 600 employees. Whole Foods is expected to occupy all of the building.
In an emailed statement, Whole Foods said the new building, on the drawing board for years, “is an exciting addition for Whole Foods Market and Austin.” A late-2021 delivery is projected.
Austin-based Endeavor Real Estate Group is developing the project for Whole Foods.
