Will $85K Investment Pay Off for Beaumont?

The city of Beaumont, TX renewed its annual contract with the Greater Beaumont Chamber of Commerce to act as an economic development corporation. To that end, the city council approved $85,000 to retain existing jobs, expand existing businesses and attract new ones. Additionally, the chamber is agreeing to spend at least $100,000 or more from its own sources for economic development.

Also under consideration include another project from Exxon Mobil at its Beaumont refinery, and a Beaumont Polyethylene Plant Expansion, or BPEX, which is being spearheaded by Entergy Texas. Additionally, one land parcel has been cleared at Phelan Boulevard near Lucas Drive, while another at Fannett Road and U.S. 69 is undergoing development, though the specific projects were not disclosed.
