When Barbara Crane first entered the commercial real estate profession in the late 1970s, she listened. She listened to customers and she listened to clients. Close to 40 years later, Crane serves as president her own firm, Barbara M. Crane, CCIM, a commercial real estate brokerage specializing in the sale and leasing of office properties in San Antonio. And, she’s still listening.
“People kept telling her what she was doing was difficult, and that she couldn’t do it,” said David Wilson, executive vice president for Lockard Development. “But she persevered, and she did.”
That perseverance is one of the reasons we chose Crane to be one of the 2017 Women in Real Estate Award winners for Texas. Connect Media’s Women in Real Estate Awards honor the achievements and inspirational stories of those women who’ve reached respected positions of leadership, and play key mentorship roles for others in commercial real estate.
Her perseverance also got her elected president to the CCIM Institute, a job she will step into in 2019. Her teaching abilities, Wilson pointed out, is training the commercial real estate leaders of the future. “The CCIM Institute has only had two other women as president,” he added. “This is a huge honor.”
