AirlineRatings.com, an Australian consumer-aviation website, recently compiled a list of the top 20 safest airlines globally. Regarding commercial aviation, 2016 was the second safest year for the form of travel, after 2013.
By pooling 425 airlines and evaluating them based on its fatality records over the past decade, its standing with international regulators, its International Air Transport Association (IATA) safety audit results, and whether it meets the International Civil Aviation Organizaton’s eight-point safety test, here’s the list of who made the cut:
Air New Zealand, Alaska Airlines, Nippon Airways, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Delta Air Lines, Etihad, Finnair, Hawaiian Airlines, Japan Airlines, KLM, Lufthansa, SAS, Singapore Airlines, Swiss International Air Lines, United Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, and Virgin Australia.
Rather than ranking numbers two to 20, AirlineRatings.com simply crowned Australia’s very own Qantas as number one.
