If dealing with people in the morning is not your cup of coffee, you can take a step into Cafe X. As San Francisco’s first fully automated cafe, robotic arms make your coffee for the competitive price of $2.25 a cup.
Founder Henry Hu’s goal is to maximize efficiency and cut costs. He noticed most of the time spent by baristas involves moving cups from here to there. Customers in his shop order from kiosks or an app and should, in theory, spend less time waiting to receive their drink. This is the first shop of its kind in the city, but another Cafe X exists in the Hong Kong Science Park.
Cafe X received $5 million in seed funding last year and hopes to open additional shops in Fremont, California.
